The Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers meet Saturday in MLB action from Comerica Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game set between these teams over the weekend. In the Friday opener, the Indians secured a three-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Cleveland played the A’s this week and didn’t have any luck, losing all three of those games. In the Friday opener versus the Tigers, the Indians posted nine hits on the way to a 7-4 win. Zach Plesac managed 7.2 frames with five hits and two earned runs.
Cleveland will send Sam Hentges out for the start in the Saturday game. Hentges is 1-4 this year with a 7.71 ERA and 46 strikeouts to his credit.
Over on the Detroit side, they managed to sweep the Orioles this week with victories 9-4, 5-2 and 6-4. In the Friday matchup versus the Indians, the Tigers had a pair of errors during the defeat. Tyler Alexander had 5.0 innings with four earned on six hits.
For the starter gig in the Saturday game two, the Tigers are going with Wily Peralta. This year over 11 games (10 starts) and 51.2 innings Peralta has a 3-2 record with a 3.48 ERA and 31 strikeouts.
The Indians are 3-7 in their last 10 with a total of 9.0-10.5 and 4-11 in their last 15 in game two of a series. Cleveland is 4-10 in the last 14 with a total of 7.0-8.5 and the over is 12-5-2 in the last 19 in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 46-104 in their last 150 versus the AL Central and 17-5 in their last 22 at home versus a team with a losing record. The under is 4-0 in Detroit’s last four in game two of a series and 10-2-1 in their last 13 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Detroit here. Peralta had a shaky start to close out July in Minnesota, posting 3.1 innings with six earned on six hits and two walks. Since then Peralta has been better though, with 9.2 innings, 12 hits, three earned and three walks across two August starts. I like Peralta to finish somewhere in the neighborhood of a quality start here, setting up the Tigers for a potential win.
