The Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet Monday in MLB action from Dodger Stadium. Colorado is fresh off a weekend series against San Diego. The Rockies won two of the first three games in that set, then on Sunday Colorado lost by two runs. As for the Dodgers, they played Arizona in their opener series. Colorado Rockies
Colorado got off to a good start versus the Padres, winning 7-2 and 4-1 in the first two games before a Saturday loss 8-4. On Sunday in the finale, the Rockies managed four team hits (and also gave up four) in a 3-1 defeat. Colorado’s Austin Gomber posted 6.0 innings with three earned on four hits and a walk.
For the starter job in the Monday matchup, the Rockies will go with Ryan Feltner. In his 20 games (19 starts) last year, Feltner went 4-9 with a 5.83 ERA. In 97.1 innings he managed 84 strikeouts. Feltner is 4-10 with a 6.16 ERA over 22 games (21 starts) in his career.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Over on the Los Angeles side, they beat the Diamondbacks 8-2 Thursday and 10-1 on Saturday but lost the Friday game 2-1. On Sunday the Dodgers had a lead until the fifth inning but eventually fell 2-1. LA was out-hit 9-4 in the defeat.
Michael Grove will take the mound for the Dodgers in the Monday game. Grove has seven games (six starts) to his credit in the MLB, going 1-0 in total during that time. Over 29.1 innings Grove has 24 strikeouts with a 1.43 WHIP.
The Rockies are 25-54 in their last 79 road games and 2-5 in their last seven Monday games. Colorado is 2-5 in their last seven in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 40-14 in their last 54 at home and 51-19 in their last 70 in game one of a series. LA is 69-27 in their last 96 overall.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’m going to try Colorado in this one. The Rockies scored pretty well against a good Padres team in their opener series, posting 15 runs across the first three games alone. On Sunday Colorado had a pretty limp offensive day, so they’ll need to regain some of that early prowess.
As for Los Angeles, they scored a combined 18 points in their first two victories this year so they’re showcasing plenty of early offensive prowess themselves. The Dodgers do have a couple of dud outings in their losses, though. I like this one to be close and I think the Rockies have a legitimate win chance.
