The Washington Nationals and the San Francisco Giants meet Monday in MLB action from Oracle Park. Washington is coming off a weekend series against the Diamondbacks. The Nationals lost the first two installments of that set, then on Sunday Washington posted a comeback victory. As for San Francisco, they played the Brewers in their last series, winning the first pair. On Sunday the Giants lost by four runs. Washignton Nationals

Washington fell to the Diamondbacks 3-1 on Friday and 8-7 in the Saturday game two. On Sunday Washington came back from a 7-3 deficit with six runs across the final three innings, winning 9-8. Trevor Williams finished with 4.1 innings, five earned, seven hits and two walks.

As starter for the Monday matchup, Washington is going with Jake Irvin. In his lone start this year (and the first of his MLB career) Irvin posted a no-decision versus the Cubs with 4.1 innings, one earned, four walks and two hits.

San Francisco Giants

Over on the Giants’ side, they beat the Brewers 6-4 in game one and 4-1 on Saturday. In the finale San Francisco had 13 team hits in a 7-3 loss. Ross Stripling lasted 5.0 innings in the start with five earned, seven hits and two walks.

In the starter role for the Monday game the Giants will send out Anthony DeSclafani. In his six starts this year DeSclafani is 3-1 with a 2.13 ERA and 30 strikeouts over 38.0 innings. DeSclafani is 53-49 with a 4.04 career ERA in 167 games (157 starts).

The Nationals are 13-42 in their last 55 in game one of a series and 2-6 in their last eight versus the NL West. Washington is 1-4 in their last five Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Giants are 2-7 in their last nine in game one of a series and the over is 5-2 in their last seven Monday games. The over is 4-1 in San Francisco’s last five in game one of a series.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to stick with the Giants. It’s a pretty thick line though, so I’ll probably stay away. DeSclafani has been solid over his last two starts, posting a combined two earned on nine hits and a walk in 14.0 innings of work. He’s 2-0 in that pair as well, and I like DeSclafani to keep it going in this one. On Sunday the Giants had a handful of bad innings. If there’s good news here however, San Francisco did a solid job on offense—they just couldn’t cash in very often. I think the Giants will fare better in this one.
