The New York Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians meet Wednesday in MLB action from Progressive Field. This will be the final installment in a three-game series. Here’s a Guardians vs Yankees prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Guardians vs Yankees pick.
New York Yankees Betting Preview
The Yankees got the bats going in their first series of the year, a three-game sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers. Next came a series loss versus the Arizona Diamondbacks, then a series win versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Yankees would end up dropping the next two series against the Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants, but then the team would bounce back with a sweep versus the Kansas City Royals. New York won their first two weekend games versus the Rays 6-3 and 1-0, but lost game three Saturday 10-8. Sunday was another victory, however, 4-0. On Monday versus the Guardians, New York gave up four runs in the third inning and couldn’t complete the comeback in an eventual loss of 6-4. Starter Clarke Schmidt finished with 4.0 innings, five earned, seven hits, and three walks in the defeat.
In the Tuesday matchup, the Yankees gave up all three runs in the sixth inning during a 3-2 loss. Ben Rice logged a solo homer in the defeat, and Jazz Chisholm had the other RBI. Starting pitcher Will Warren got through 5.0 innings with two earned runs on three hits and a walk alongside five strikeouts.
As a starter for Wednesday, New York has Carlos Rodon pencilled in. This year in five starts, Rodon is 2-3 with a 4.34 ERA in 29.0 innings total. Rodon is 77-66 with a 3.86 ERA in 203 career games (198 starts).
Cleveland Guardians Betting Preview
Over on the Cleveland side, they won their first series of the year over the Kansas City Royals, then suffered a sweep at the hands of the San Diego Padres. The Guardians would lose the next set versus the Los Angeles Angels, but then came back to sweep the Chicago White Sox. After a series win over the Royals, Cleveland lost a set to the Baltimore Orioles. Over the weekend, however, Cleveland played pretty well and posted a three-game sweep versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. On Monday, the Guardians gave up four runs in the seventh and eighth innings but still held on for the victory. Jose Ramirez (four RBI) and Kyle Manzardo (solo) each hit a home run along the way.
In the Tuesday game, Cleveland was down 2-0 by the top of the sixth inning but fought back for the win. Kyle Manzardo had an RBI and a run, while Steven Kwan had two hits and a run. Tanner Bibee logged 6.0 frames in the start with two earned, five hits, three walks, and five Ks.
In the starting pitcher slot on Wednesday, it’ll be Luis Ortiz. So far this year, Ortiz is 2-2 with a 5.48 ERA in four starts. Ortiz is 14-15 with a 4.06 ERA in 63 career games (38 starts) over his MLB tenure.

Guardians vs Yankees Prediction
I’ll take a stab at the Guardians. Ortiz posted a loss in his April 6 game versus the Angels, notching three earned runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings. In his two starts since then, however, Ortiz is a nice 2-0 with just three earned runs in 10.2 innings on five hits and five walks combined. As for Rodon, he took a couple of losses versus the Tigers and Giants, going 11.2 combined frames with nine earned, seven hits, and six walks. Rodon bounced back with a win over Tampa Bay on April 18, though, putting up 6.0 clean innings, two hits, and four walks. We should have a pretty good starter matchup here.
Cleveland really only had one good offensive inning in the Tuesday win, but it was enough behind a strong bullpen performance (3.0 innings; no earned; one hit; one walk; four Ks). I like the Guardians to keep it going on Wednesday.
