The Cincinnati Reds and the Kansas City Royals meet Wednesday in MLB action from Kauffman Stadium. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The Reds eked out a win in the opener, then on Tuesday Cincinnati kept it up with another close victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Cincinnati Reds
The Reds managed 10 hits in the Tuesday game, eking out a 5-4 win in 10 innings. On Tuesday in game two, Cincinnati got another 5-4 win, this time in just nine frames. Starter Brandon Williamson lasted 5.0 innings with three earned on seven hits.
For the starter job in the Wednesday finale the Reds will go with Ben Lively. This year Lively is 3-4 with a 4.21 ERA in seven games (five starts). He has 37 Ks in 36.1 innings. Lively is 7-14 with a 4.66 career ERA in 33 games (25 starts).
Kansas City Royals
Over on the Kansas City side, they had an early 3-0 lead in the Monday game but couldn’t do much after the second inning. On Tuesday the Royals gave up five in the second inning during the loss. Jordan Lyles managed 6.0 innings in the start with five earned, five hits and three walks.
Daniel Lynch will make the start for Kansas City on Wednesday. This year Lynch is 0-2 with a 4.41 ERA in three starts with 17 Ks in 16.1 total innings. Lynch is 8-21 with a 5.25 ERA in 45 career games.
The Reds are 18-37 in their last 55 Wednesday games and 8-18 in their last 26 in game three of a series. Cincinnati is 5-14 in their last 19 road games versus a lefty starter.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 7-15 in their last 22 in game three of a series and 9-24 in their last 33 at home. KC is 15-42 in their last 57 overall.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stay with the Royals here. Probably not touching it, though. Lynch is 0-2 in his last pair with six earned on 14 hits and two walks in 11.0 combined innings. Lively has been struggling as well with 12 earned over his last 13.2 frames. On Tuesday Kansas City really only had the one bad inning and surrendered a tepid five hits. I like the Royals to prevent the sweep in game three.
