The New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals meet Wednesday in MLB action from Kauffman Stadium. This will be the second installment in a three-game series this week. New York Mets 

New York had a solid run against the Nationals over the weekend, winning three of four games. In Sunday’s 5-2 victory, Mets 1B Pete Alonso provided a pair of RBI and Francisco Lindor added a solo homer. On Tuesday versus KC, the Mets were up 6-4 heading into the bottom of the 10th but ended up losing 7-6. Both Francisco Alvarez and Pete Alonso had two RBI in the defeat. 

For the starter job Wednesday, New York is sending out Kodai Senga. Over his 19 starts so far Senga is 7-5 with a 3.17 ERA and 130 Ks in 105.0 innings. Senga is 1-2 with a 2.90 ERA in his last seven starts, giving up 13 earned in 40.1 innings.

Kansas City Royals

Over on the Royals’ side, they were able to sweep the Twins over the weekend after eking out a 2-1 Sunday finale win. KC’s Freddy Fermin and Maikel Garcia each provided an RBI in the victory. On Tuesday the Royals ended up winning on a balk after rallying in the 10th inning. Maikel Garcia had two RBI and a run, and Samad Taylor had two runs and two hits. 

Alec Marsh will take starter duties for Kansas City on Wednesday. Over his five starts this year Marsh is 0-5 with a 7.04 ERA and 27 Ks in 23.0 innings. Marsh is coming off a loss in Cleveland with 2.2 innings and four earned runs.

I’m staying with the Mets. The line’s too thick to mess with, though. Senga is on a pretty solid run these days; he’s got four earned over his last three starts in 15.1 innings total. As for Marsh, he’s 0-3 in his last three starts with 11 earned runs in 14.0 frames. In the Tuesday opener, New York had a rough 10th inning and gave the game away; the pen couldn’t help out Jose Quintana. You can’t fault the offense here; the Mets have posted five or more runs in four straight games. I like a better performance on the mound from New York during a victory in game two.
