The Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers meet in MLB action from Globe Life Field on Sunday.
The Kansas City Royals will look to rebound from an 8-0 loss at the hands of the Rangers on Saturday. Hanser Alberto, Ryan O’Hearn and Kelvin Gutierrez each had a base hit as the Royals had just three hits as a team in the losing effort with the rest of the Royals’ lineup batting 0 for 20 with 8 strikeouts in the losing effort. Kris Bubic took the loss in relief falling to 2-3 on the year as a result. Brady Singer will start here and is 3-5 with a 4.77 ERA and 76 strikeouts this season. This will be Singer’s second career start against Texas.
The Texas Rangers will look to build on their win over the Royals from Saturday. Joey Gallo led the charge with a pair of home runs and five RBIs while Jose Trevino had a double and two RBIs and Adolis Garcia went 2 for 3 with an RBI to make up the scoring for Texas in the win. Brock Holt added a double while Nick Solak and Andy Ibanez each had two hits while Eli White and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each had a base hit to cap off the offense for Texas in the win. Kyle Gibson got the win to improve to 6-0 after tossing seven shutout innings, giving up just two hits while striking out ten in the win. Jordan Lyles will start here and is 2-5 with a 5.47 ERA and 63 strikeouts this season. in his career, Lyles is 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 18 strikeouts against Kansas City.
Kansas City is 4-15 in their last 19 games overall and 6-2 in their last 8 games as a road favorite while the over is 5-0-1 in their last 6 road games. Texas is 8-26 in their last 34 games as an underdog and 6-21 in their last 27 games overall while the under is 3-0-2 in their last 5 Sunday games. The under is 36-10-6 in the last 52 meetings between these two teams.
I’m not trying to back either of these starting pitchers if we’re being honest, but I do feel slightly better backing Singer as I’ve watched Jordan Lyles get batted around more often than not over the course of his career. The Royals also are more reliable offensively despite their recent rough patch, so I’ll look at the Royals in this one.
