Astros Try to Build Off Series Win

The Houston Astros are 28-35 this year and they have won three of their last five games. Houston is coming off of a series win against St. Louis, where they won two out of three games and scored 15 runs in the first two games. Prior to that series, the Astros lost two out of three against the Twins, lost three out of four against the Mariners, and won two out of three against the Athletics. Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for Houston is Framber Valdez, who is 4-3 with a 3.95 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP over 54.2 innings pitched this season. Valdez has allowed three earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts, but did allow eight earned runs and 10 hits against the Angels three starts ago. The projected starting pitcher for Los Angeles is Griffin Canning, who is 2-5 with a 4.69 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP over 63.1 innings pitched this year. Canning has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts, including allowing two earned runs and five hits over five innings against the Astros three starts ago.

LA Angels vs Houston Astros Prediction

The Angels are 14 games below .500 so far this year, but they are coming off of a sweep of the Padres and they have some momentum coming into this series. Los Angeles is just 10-21 at home, while Houston is 11-17 on the road. The Astros have shown some signs of bouncing back over the last few weeks, but they have had issues stringing wins together. Houston is starting Valdez, who is normally very good, but has had a few really poor outings this year. LA is going with Canning, who doesn’t have strong numbers this year, but has pitched well recently. The Angels tore up Valdez the last time they saw him and I think we are going to see another higher scoring game here. My LA Angels vs Houston Astros prediction is for this game to go over the total.
