The Oakland A’s and the Los Angeles Angels square off Tuesday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s an LA Angels vs Oakland Athletics Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The Oakland A’s will send out Mitch Spence for the start here and Spence is 4-3 with a 3.86 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. This will be Spence’s first career start against the Angels. The Los Angeles Angels will send out Tyler Anderson for the start here and Anderson is 6-7 with a 2.48 ERA and 63 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the A’s, Anderson is 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA and 22 strikeouts.

Oakland A’s Recap

The Oakland A’s come into this one looking to bounce back after starting the series with a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Angels in Monday’s series opener. The loss was not an ideal start to the set for the A’s who are coming in trying to bounce back from a series loss to the Minnesota Twins this past weekend.

A’s Struggling Offensively

Going into Monday’s matchup, Brent Rooker leads the A’s with 44 RBIs along with 13 home runs this season while Abraham Toro has a team-high 72 hits and 24 RBIs. JJ Bleday has a team-high 22 doubles, 3 triples, 72 hits and 28 RBIs and Toro has a .260 batting average. Rooker also has the unfortunate title of leading strikeout bat with 96 K’s at the dish this season. Shea Langeliers has also chipped in 14 home runs and 39 RBIs.

Why the Oakland Athletics will win

  • The Angels have lost each of their last 11 home games against American League opponents following a win.
  • The Athletics have won three of their last four night games against the Angels following a road loss.
  • The Angels have failed to cover the run line in each of their last seven games as favorites against AL West opponents following a win.
  • The Athletics have covered the run line in each of their last seven Tuesday night games against American League opponents.

Los Angeles Angels Recap

The Los Angeles Angels come into this game hoping to build on their series-opening triumph over the A’s on Monday. The win for the Angels was a nice carry-over performance after earning a series split with the Dodgers this past weekend.

Angels Still Having Inconsistencies At The Plate

Entering Monday’s Opener, Taylor Ward has 65 hits along with 13 doubles, 12 home runs and a team-high 38 RBIs. Mike Trout also has 10 home runs along with a pair of triples and 6 stolen bases, but remains out indefinitely with injury while Zach Neto has 16 doubles, 65 strikeouts and 9 stolen bases. Luis Rengifo also has a team-high 66 hits and 20 stolen bases while Jo Adell has 12 home runs, 33 RBIs and 9 stolen bases as well.

Why the Los Angeles Angels will win

  • The Athletics have lost each of their last 12 road games against American League opponents following a road loss.
  • The home team has won nine of the last 10 games between the Athletics and Angels.
  • The Athletics have failed to cover the run line each of their last four games against teams that held a losing record.
  • The favorites have covered the run line in four of the Angels’ last five games.

LA Angels vs Oakland Athletics Prediction

I’m on the under here. Not because I think a matchup of Spence vs. Anderson is going to be a pitcher’s duel in any way, but these are two teams with two offenses that I don’t trust to do much of anything in this matchup. Game one saw a beatdown that still only plated 6 runs, and I think we could see even less here. Give me the under.
