The Miami Marlins and the Los Angeles Angels meet in interleague MLB action from Angel Stadium on Friday night. Let’s dive into the odds, starting pitching matchup, history and make a prediction for this game.

Odds

The Angels are -140 home favorites while Miami is a +120 road underdog. The total for this game is set at 8.5 runs.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Miami will start Jesus Luzardo here and Luzardo is 3-3 with a 3.83 ERA and 63 strikeouts this season. Los Angeles will send Reid Detmers to the mound and Detmers is 0-3 with a 4.87 ERA and 53 strikeouts this season.

Matchup History

The Angels’ 5-2 win over Miami back on July 6th, 2022, made it three wins in the last four head-to-head meetings for the Halos in this head-to-head matchup.

Trends

Miami is 35-76 in their last 111 series-opening games and 7-16 in their last 23 interleague road games while the under is 5-2-1 in their last 8 games overall. Los Angeles is 7-0 in their last 7 series-opening games and 4-0 in their last 4 home games while the over is 9-4-3 in their last 16 games against the NL East.

Pick

I’m backing the Angels here. I don’t love Reid Detmers, and Jesus Luzardo’s been pretty good for the Marlins this season, but he’s been a lot better at home and the area where he’s been getting hit the hardest has been on the road and I think this game is likely no different. Miami lost a heartbreaker on Thursday and a quick turnaround and travel day after playing in the altitude in Colorado, is likely going to take a day to adjust and I think the Angels take advantage here. Give me the Angels.
