The San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet in an NL West division matchup in MLB action from Dodger Stadium on Saturday night.
The San Diego Padres will look to build on their 7-1 win over the Dodgers from Friday’s series opener. Manny Machado has a team-high 144 hits with 34 doubles, 25 home runs and 87 RBIs while Jurickson Profar also has 29 doubles, 13 home runs and 51 RBIs. Jake Cronenworth has 3 triples as well as 25 doubles and 67 RBIs on the year. Sean Manaea will start here and is 7-7 with a 4.90 ERA and 136 strikeouts this season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to bounce back after a frustrating loss to the Padres on Friday. Freddie Freeman has 165 hits with a .322 batting average while Justin Turner has 67 RBIs and 31 doubles. Trea Turner also has 162 hits with 33 doubles, a .306 batting average and a team-high 86 RBIs. Freeman also has 43 doubles to lead the Dodgers while Mookie Betts has 129 hits, 32 home runs, 70 RBIs and a .279 batting average. Julio Urias will start here and is 14-7 with a 2.32 ERA and 137 strikeouts this season.
San Diego is 6-1 in their last 7 road games and 5-1 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 game two matchups. Los Angeles is 45-12 in their last 57 games overall and 51-16 in their last 67 games against the NL West while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 home games against a team with a winning record.
I get the reasoning for wanting to back the Padres as an underdog after Friday’s win and the fact that they’ve been playing some solid ball as of late. However, the Dodgers are simply the better team from top to bottom and they’re not going to win every game. But this one they should with Sean Manaea on the other side for San Diego as I stand by my sentiment that Manaea is the weak link in San Diego’s rotation and he’s gotten blasted by the Dodgers in two starts against L.A. this season. I see no other option than to take the Dodgers on the -1.5 run line here.
