The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals meet Sunday in MLB action from Nationals Park. This will be the third installment in a four-game weekend series. Here’s a Nationals vs Mets prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Nationals vs Mets pick.
New York Mets Betting Preview
New York opened up their 2025 campaign by losing a set versus the Houston Astros, then next came victories in two of three games versus the Miami Marlins. The Mets took a sweep over the Toronto Blue Jays next, then posted another series victory versus Miami. New York managed a win in another series against the A’s then lost in a series versus the Twins ahead of a three-game sweep over the Cardinals. The Mets swept the Phillies in their last series, then in the opener versus the Nats Friday New York blew a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning on the way to a 5-4 loss. Mark Vientos logged three RBI, while starter Kodai Senga had 6.0 innings with two earned on six hits and two walks.
On Saturday in game two the Mets posted both runs in the second inning during a 2-0 shutout win. Starter Clay Holmes lasted 5.0 clean innings with four hits, no walks and two strikeouts.
For the Sunday starting pitcher gig the Mets will send out Tylor Megill. This year Megill is 3-2 with a 1.09 ERA in five starts over 24.2 innings. Megill is 24-23 with a 4.33 ERA in 79 games (72 starts) over his MLB career.
Washington Nationals Betting Preview
Over on the Nationals’ side, they took a loss in their first series of the season against the Phillies and then fell in a sweep by the Toronto Blue Jays ahead of a series victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Nats then took a series victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers and would lose two of three against the Miami Marlins afterward. After losses in three of four against the Pirates, the Nationals would win a series last weekend versus the Rockies. Washington won over Baltimore 7-0 and 4-3 in the first two games then lost 2-1 on Thursday in the finale. In Friday’s opener, the Nats got two RBI from both CJ Abrams (two hits; run) and Jose Tena (three hits) in the comeback victory. Jake Irvin lasted 7.1 innings in the start with one earned on five hits and a walk.
On Saturday Washington was out-hit 8-7 in the defeat. Brad Lord went 4.0 innings in the start with two earned runs on five hits.
Starter for Sunday will be the Nationals’ Mitchell Parker. This year so far Parker is 3-1 with a 1.39 ERA in five starts over 32.1 innings. Parker is 10-11 with a 3.78 ERA in 34 career games at the MLB level.
Nationals vs Mets Prediction
I’m going to try the Nationals. We should have a pretty good starting pitcher matchup here if both guys are on point, however. Parker gave up three earned in 6.0 innings versus the Marlins in a no-decision back on April 11, but in his last two starts he’s looked much better. Parker has just one earned on five hits and three walks combined over 14.0 innings in that pair. As for Megill, he’s just 1-2 in his last three starts but he’s been pitching well. Over that trio Megill has 14.1 innings with just two earned on 15 hits and seven walks combined.
The Nationals didn’t show a ton of spark in their Saturday defeat. Luis Garcia and Dylan Crews each had two of the team’s seven hits but neither could cash in on them. The good news is that the bullpen followed up Lord’s start well, so another nice outing from that group would help immensely in game three.
