Arizona Diamondbacks 

The Diamondbacks played a pair of games versus the Giants this week and things went very well. Arizona took an 8-4 win Tuesday and a 7-1 victory in game two. In the Wednesday win, the Diamondbacks got four hits, three runs and a homer from Corbin Carroll. On Friday versus the Yankees, Arizona posted five hits and two errors in a 7-1 loss. Christian Walker provided the lone RBI with a solo homer. 

As starting pitcher for Saturday’s matchup, the Diamondbacks are going with Zach Davies. This year Davies is 2-5 with a 6.81 ERA in 17 starts. Davies has gone 1-1 with a 7.26 ERA over his last seven starts.

On Friday the Yankees scored three in both the third and fifth innings in their blowout win. Aaron Judge had a monstrous game with three homers, six RBI and four hits. 

It’ll be Carlos Rodon in the starter role for the Yankees on Saturday. This year Rodon is 3-6 with a 5.90 ERA in 12 starts. He’s got 60 Ks in 58.0 innings. Rodon has gone 2-2 over his last seven starts with a 5.61 ERA and 40 Ks.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll probably just stick with the Yankees here. Rodon has been pretty solid since posting seven earned in 3.2 innings on eight hits in a loss to Detroit back on September 7. In two starts since then Rodon is 1-1 with four earned in 11.2 innings on 10 hits and four walks. He should be okay for five reasonable innings here. On Friday in the opener the Yankees benefitted greatly from Judge’s perfect performance at the plate. That said, the rest of the offense—not to mention the pitching—was pretty darn good as well. New York only used one bullpen arm (Jhony Brito) so they’ll be fresh for game two.
