In this article we will formulate a NY Mets vs LA Dodgers prediction for this MLB game on Friday, October 18th at Citi Field in New York. Let’s take a look at the prediction for game five in the NLCS.

NY Mets Betting Preview

The New York Mets have lost two games in a row and they are now down 3-1 in the series coming into this game. New York has been out scored 18-2 over the last two games, after they won 7-3 in game two. The Mets have allowed 10, 8, and 9 runs in their three losses in the series, so they really need to find a good start in this one. Prior to this series, the Mets won two out of three against the Brewers in the Wild Card round and they won three out of four against the Phillies in the NLDS.

The New York pitching staff had a 3.96 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and a .230 opponent batting average this year. The Mets offense scored 768 runs with a .246 batting average and a .319 on base percentage during the regular season. Pete Alonso hit .240 with 34 home runs and 88 RBI’s for the Mets this season.

LA Dodgers Betting Preview

The Los Angeles Dodgers come into this matchup up 3-1 in the series and they will look to advance to the World Series with a win here. The Dodgers won game four by a score of 10-2 on Thursday night and they won game three by a score of 8-0, so their offense is rolling right now. Prior to this series, the Dodgers won three out of five games against the Padres in the NLDS and they shutout San Diego in games four and five. LA has allowed two runs or fewer in five of their last six games.

The Los Angeles pitching staff had a 3.90 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and a .235 opponent batting average this year. The Dodgers offense scored 842 runs with a .258 batting average and a .335 on base percentage during the regular season. Shohei Ohtani hit .310 with 54 home runs and 130 RBI’s for the Dodgers this season.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for Los Angeles is Jack Flaherty, who allowed zero runs and two hits over 7.0 innings against the Mets earlier in this series. Flaherty did allow at least three earned runs in the four starts prior to that, including seven earned runs over 10.1 innings against the Padres. The projected starting pitcher for New York is David Peterson, who allowed two earned runs and four hits over 2.1 innings against the Dodgers earlier in the series. Peterson has been great for the Mets this season, but hasn’t pitched more than 3.0 innings in the postseason.

Why the Dodgers will beat the Mets

  • The Dodgers have won each of their last seven road games after playing the previous day.
  • The Mets have lost each of their last 16 games as home underdogs against the Dodgers following a loss.
  • The Dodgers have covered the run line in each of their last eight games at Citi Field.
  • The Mets have failed to cover the run line in each of their last seven home games against the Dodgers following a loss.
  • The Dodgers have led after 3 innings in each of their last five night playoff games.
  • The Dodgers have led after 5 innings in each of their last five night playoff games.

Total Runs Facts

  • Each of the Dodgers’ last 10 games against NL East opponents have gone OVER the total runs line.
  • Each of the Mets’ last seven games as underdogs have gone OVER the total runs line.

Matchup/League Facts

  • The New York Mets rank 2nd in the league for opponent batting average this season (.230).
  • The New York Mets rank 28th in the league for walks allowed this season (586).
  • The Los Angeles Dodgers rank 1st in the league for slugging percentage this season (.446).
  • The Los Angeles Dodgers rank 2nd in the league for runs scored this season (842).

NY Mets vs LA Dodgers Prediction

New York comes into this matchup needing a win to stay alive in the series, but they are having all sorts of trouble keeping the Dodgers off of the scoreboard. LA has been red hot at the plate in this series and while Peterson was a very good starting pitcher this year, I don’t think he is going to be the answer for the Mets here. The Dodgers have another very good pitcher on the mound in this game and I am not going against their bats right now. Take LA to get the win and advance.
