The New York Yankees and the Oakland A’s meet in MLB action from RingCentral Coliseum on Friday night.
The New York Yankees will look to build on a 13-4 win to start the series against Oakland from Thursday night. Aaron Judge leads the Yankees with 48 home runs and 106 RBIs along with 134 hits and a .296 batting average in addition to 20 doubles while Gleyber Torres has 21 doubles and DJ LeMahieu has 18 doubles of his own. Anthony Rizzo also has 19 doubles so far this season, in addition to logging 28 home runs and 69 RBIs. Gerrit Cole will start here and is 9-6 with a 3.41 ERA and 189 strikeouts this season.
The Oakland A’s will look to rebound after their loss to the Yankees on Thursday night. Sheldon Neuse has 55 hits with 24 RBIs and a .220 batting average while Sean Murphy has 106 hits with 30 doubles and 16 home runs with 53 RBIs. Seth Brown’s got a team-high of 17 home runs and 50 RBIs with 21 doubles and Elvis Andrus also has 24 doubles as well this season. JP Sears will start here and is 5-0 with a 1.93 ERA and 23 strikeouts this season.
New York is 6-14 in their last 20 games overall and 2-9 in their last 11 road games while the under is 3-0-2 in their last 5 games against a team with a left-handed starter. Oakland is 16-39 in their last 55 home games and 5-13 in their last 18 games overall while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games against the AL East.
I get the reasoning for backing the Yankees here, but I’m not looking to back Gerrit Cole in this spot, even against the A’s as he just has not been pitching like a staff ace as of late. JP Sears I think is going to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder against his former team for this start and he’s been pretty good in what we’ve seen so far for Oakland. I’ll take my chances with the A’s +1.5 here.
