Israel and the Dominican Republic face off on Tuesday morning in an Olympic baseball showdown. This is an elimination game with the loser being sent home from the tournament.
Israel has been very inconsistent in this tournament, and they have only come away with one victory. Two games ago against Mexico, Israel’s offense was strong scoring 12 runs but that was really the only game the offense found success. In the last game against South Korea, though the offense went back to struggling, the pitching staff really let them down, as they were defeated 12-1. Ian Kinsler has been one of the best players for Israel, and in this game, if they want any chance to come away with the victory. The offense is going to need to be a lot better in this game, especially Kinsler, or Israel’s time in the Olympics is going to be over.
On the other side of this matchup is the Dominican Republic who has also not been all that impressive in the Olympics, but they are still alive, and can’t focus on what has happened up to this point. In the last game, the Dominican Republic played pretty well, until late in the game. In the ninth inning, the Dominican Republic allowed three runs in the 9th inning and that led to the defeat and has really put their backs against the wall. Juan Francisco was the best player in the last game finishing with two runs driven in, and in this game, it’s going to be about a more balanced attack from the offense.
Israel’s pitching isn’t great, and I expect that will be the case again in this game. Look for the Dominican Republic to run up the score, and there is going to be plenty of scoring in this game. Back the over to cash.
