The San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies meet on Monday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. This will be the first installment in a four-game series. Here’s a Phillies vs Giants prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Phillies vs Giants pick.

San Francisco Giants Betting Preview

The Giants opened up their season with a series versus the Cincinnati Reds and took two of those three games. San Francisco would keep it going versus the Houston Astros, bagging a three-game sweep in the next set. The Giants gave the Seattle Mariners the same three-game sweep treatment, then lost two of three to the Cincinnati Reds. San Francisco demolished the New York Yankees 9-1 in a rain-shortened game Friday, then on Saturday the Giants had the game tied 2-2 early on but ended up falling 8-4 after giving up five runs in the fifth. San Francisco’s Jordan Hicks put up 4.0 frames in the start with seven earned on eight hits and three walks.

In the Sunday finale, San Francisco was looking rough with a 3-0 deficit heading into the fourth inning. The Giants began to chip their way back, however, eventually finishing off the comeback in a 5-4 victory. Jung Hoo Lee was the hero on offense with two homers, a walk, and four RBI. Starting pitcher Logan Webb lasted 5.0 innings with three earned on five hits and four walks.

For the starter gig in the Monday opener, the Giants will go with Landen Roupp. So far, through two starts, Roupp is 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA across 10.0 total innings. Over his career in the MLB, Roupp is 1-3 with a 3.58 ERA in 25 games (six starts).

Philadelphia Phillies Betting Preview

Over on the Phillies’ side, they took two of three versus the Washington Nationals in their opening series this year. Philadelphia would then sweep the Colorado Rockies in three games and then win two of three versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Philly lost two of three versus the Braves last week, then lost 2-0 in the Friday opener versus the St. Louis Cardinals. In game two on Saturday, the Phillies got some revenge, scoring twice in the first inning on the way to a 4-1 victory. Nick Castellanos had two RBIs on three hits, while starter Christopher Sanchez pitched 6.1 innings with one earned on eight hits and two walks.

In the Sunday game, Philadelphia could only muster three team hits in a pretty limp effort on both sides. The end result was a 7-0 loss. Bryce Harper, TJ Realumto, and Edmundo Sosa each had one hit in the shutout. Starting pitcher Zach Wheeler logged 6.0 innings with four earned runs on seven hits and a walk.

As the starting pitcher for Monday, the Phillies are sending out Taijuan Walker. So far, in two starts, Walker has a clean 0.00 ERA and a 1-0 record in 10.2 innings. Walker is 73-63 in his career with a 4.16 ERA in 219 games (211 starts) total.

Phillies vs Giants Prediction

I’ll lean toward Philly. Walker is playing quite well over his first two starts. In that pair, he’s given up zero earned runs on eight hits and four walks in 10.2 innings for a 1-0 record. Walker is coming off just 4.2 frames, five hits, and three walks in a no-decision versus Atlanta, though. As for Roupp, he has four earned total on 11 hits and four walks in 10.0 innings during his first two starts. Roupp most recently went 6.0 innings with just one earned run versus the Reds on April 8, taking a tough-luck loss along the way. We should have a pretty good pitching matchup here if both guys throw well.

The Phillies didn’t play well on Sunday, though, giving up 10 team hits and only mustering three themselves. The bullpen gave up three more earned runs after Wheeler’s tough day as well. It’s going to take a good bounce-back effort on Monday, but I think Philly has it in them.
