Detroit Tigers Betting Preview

The Tigers took on the Oakland Athletics over the weekend, winning Friday before a pair of losses 4-0 and 7-1 in the weekend games. On Monday versus Pittsburgh, Detroit showed a little life in the last two innings but ultimately lost 7-4 in a game featuring 21 combined hits. Starter Reese Olson coughed up six earned in 4.1 innings on nine hits and three walks.

In the starting pitcher role for game two, it’ll be the Tigers’ Casey Mize. In his first start of the season Mize put up 4.1 innings with three earned runs on five hits and two walks. Mize has a 4.34 ERA with a 7-13 record in 40 career games.

Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

Over on the Pirates’ side, they took on the Baltimore Orioles in their weekend set. Pittsburgh lost Friday before two weekend victories 5-4 and 3-2 to take the series. On Monday the Pirates notched 12 team hits on the way to the win. Mitch Keller had a nice outing as starter with 6.0 frames and two earned runs on five hits and three walks.

Martin Perez will toe the rubber in the starting pitcher role on Tuesday. In his first two outings of the year Perez is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and eight strikeouts in 11.0 innings total. Perez has a career record of 86-81 with a 4.42 ERA in 290 games (245 starts).

Tigers vs Pirates Prediction

I’ll stick with the Pirates. Perez has done well so far this year in his two starts. He gave up one earned in Miami over 4.1 innings, then followed up with two earned in 6.2 frames versus the Nationals in a win. If Perez can keep it going Tuesday, Pittsburgh will be set up well.

In the Monday game, the Pirates got two RBI from Connor Joe, Jared Triolo and Joey Bart. Five different players had multiple hits in a great offensive effort overall. Provided Perez can notch a quality outing I like Pittsburgh to keep it rolling in game two.
