The Seattle Mariners and the Boston Red Sox meet Thursday in MLB action from Fenway Park. This will be the finale in a three-game series. Here’s a Red Sox vs Mariners prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Red Sox vs Mariners pick.

Seattle Mariners Betting Preview

The Mariners began their season by splitting a four-game series with the Oakland Athletics, then fell in two of the three games versus the Detroit Tigers. Seattle then finished on the wrong end of a sweep by the San Francisco Giants ahead of a series victory against the Astros. The Mariners would post their own sweep versus the Texas Rangers next and beat the Reds in two of three. Seattle split the first two games of the weekend set versus the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 (loss) and 8-4 (win) before an 8-3 Sunday victory. In Tuesday’s game versus the Boston Red Sox, the Mariners were within a run at the end of the sixth inning, then coughed up four in the next frame on the way to an 8-3 loss. Starting pitcher Bryce Miller put up 4.2 innings with four earned runs on five hits and four walks in the defeat.

In the Wednesday game two, Seattle posted 13 team hits along the way to a win 8-5. Emerson Hancock finished with 6.0 innings in the start with two earned runs on five hits and two walks alongside seven Ks.

For the Thursday finale starting pitcher slot, the Mariners are going with Bryan Woo. So far Woo is 2-1 with a 3.12 ERA in four starts. Woo is 15-9 with a 3.41 ERA in 44 career games at the MLB level.

Boston Red Sox Betting Preview

Over on the Red Sox’ side, they took a four-game series loss versus the Texas Rangers in their opening appearance this year, then next won a series versus the Baltimore Orioles. The Sox would then bag a sweep over the St. Louis Cardinals ahead of a four-game series loss against the Blue Jays. Boston fell in their three-game “laundry series” versus the White Sox then won a series against Tampa Bay. In their rematch with the White Sox over the weekend, the Red Sox managed wins Friday and Saturday ahead of a Sunday defeat. In the Monday finale, Boston took the set with a 4-2 victory. In Tuesday’s opener versus the Mariners, the Red Sox got two hits and three RBI from Alex Bregman. Triston Casas added three RBI with a home run.

In the Wednesday matchup Boston got a home run from Casas (three RBI). Starter Sean Newcomb put up 5.0 innings with four earned on eight hits and two walks alongside eight strikeouts.

Starter for Thursday will be the Sox’ Garrett Crochet. So far this year over his five starts Crochet is 2-1 with a 1.13 ERA in 32.0 total innings. Crochet is 11-20 with a 3.01 ERA in 109 career games (37 starts).

Red Sox vs Mariners Prediction

I’m going to stay with Boston. Crochet should be able to post a nice start here; he’s been doing well lately. Over his last three combined Crochet is a tepid 1-1 but he’s given up just two combined earned runs in 19.0 total innings on 10 hits and seven walks. A quality start would go a long way here—as would six good frames or so. Boston’s pen and bats should be set up well in this one if all goes according to plan. As for Woo, he’s been doing well in his last pair. Woo has a tepid 1-1 record in those two, but has gone 7.0 innings in each with four earned on 13 hits and three walks.

The Red Sox had a few rough innings in their Wednesday matchup and there were some spotty moments on the mound. Boston should be in good shape if Crochet can get it going Thursday though, and it’ll be up to the pen/bats from there.
