The San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds meet in MLB action from Great American Ballpark on Wednesday.

The San Diego Padres will look to build on their 5-4 win over the Reds last time out. Tommy Pham led the charge, going 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs while Jake Cronenworth had a triple and an RBI. Manny Machado and Trent Grisham each had an RBI to make up the scoring for the Padres in the win while Jurickson Profar added a pinch-hit double. Wil Myers had a pair of hits while Victor Catatini, Eric Hosmer and Fernando Tatis Jr. each had a base hit as well to finish off San Diego’s offense as a team in the win. Emilio Pagan got the win to improve to 4-0 on the year while Mark Melancon closed the door for his 25th save of the season. Joe Musgrove will start here and is 4-6 with a 2.22 ERA and 103 strikeouts this season. In his career, Musgrove is 3-2 with a 3.35 ERA and 37 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Reds will try to bounce back from their loss to San Diego last time out. Jesse Winker led the charge with a two-run home run while Tyler Stephenson and Shogo Akiyama each had an RBI with Akiyama going 2 for 4 at the dish to make up the rest of the scoring for the Reds in defeat. Joey Votto went 2 for 4 at the dish while Kyle Farmer and Jonathan India each had a base hit as well to finish off the offense for the Reds in defeat. Tony Santillan took the loss, falling to 1-2 after allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out four over three innings of work. Vladimir Gutierrez will start here and is 3-2 with a 3.97 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. This will be Gutierrez’s second career start against the Padres.

San Diego is 10-1 in their last 11 games overall and 2-9 in their last 11 road games while the over is 10-1 in their last 11 games as a favorite. Cincinnati is 0-5 in their last 5 games against the NL West and 1-5 in their last 6 games as an underdog while the under is 36-12-3 in their last 51 Wednesday games. San Diego is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

I’ve been really impressed what Vladimir Gutierrez has brought to the table for the Reds in the early going, but the problem is that the Padres have had Cincinnati’s number in recent meetings and Joe Musgrove hasn’t been one to give up anything easy to opposing teams. I think we may see Musgrove throw some darts here as well, so give me the Padres in this one.
