In this article we will formulate a San Diego Padres vs Miami Marlins prediction for this MLB game on Tuesday, May 28th at Petco Park in San Diego, California. Let’s take a look at the prediction for game two in the series.

San Diego Goes For Three Straight

The San Diego Padres are 29-28 this season and they have won two games in a row. San Diego won the first game in this series by a score of 2-1 on Monday. Prior to this series, the Padres lost two out of three against the Yankees, won two out of three against the Reds, and won three out of four against the Braves. San Diego is 7-4 in their last 11 games and they are third in the NL West behind the Dodgers and Giants.

The San Diego pitching staff has a 3.91 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and a .233 opponent batting average. The Padres offense has scored 250 runs with a .255 batting average and a .322 on base percentage. Fernando Tatis is batting .244 with nine home runs and 28 RBI’s for the Padres this season. San Diego is eighth in runs scored this season and they have scored at least five runs in five of their last ten games.

Marlins are Improving

The Miami Marlins are 19-36 this year and they have won eight of their last 12 games. Miami did lose game one in this series on Monday and only scored once in the loss. Prior to this series, the Marlins won two out of three against Arizona, won two out of three against Milwaukee, and won two out of three against the Mets. Miami has played much better over the last two weeks, but they are still last in the NL East behind the Phillies, Braves, Nationals, and Mets.

The Miami pitching staff has a 4.08 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and a .229 opponent batting average. The Marlins offense has scored 202 runs with a .232 batting average and a .288 on base percentage. Bryan De La Cruz is batting .258 with nine home runs and 25 RBI’s for the Marlins this season. Miami is 27th in team ERA this season, but they have allowed three runs or fewer in nine of their last twelve games.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for San Diego is Matt Waldron, who is 2-5 with a 4.86 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP over 50.0 innings pitched this year. Waldron has allowed two earned runs or fewer in three straight starts, but did allow 11 earned runs in the two starts prior to that. The projected starting pitcher for Miami is Jesus Luzardo, who is 2-3 with a 4.14 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP over 45.2 innings pitched this year. Luzardo has allowed two earned runs or fewer in four straight starts and has not allowed a run in his last two outings (14.0 IP).

San Diego Padres vs Miami Marlins Prediction

Both of these teams come into this matchup playing pretty solid baseball over the last two weeks, but San Diego was able to get the win in a low scoring game one. The Padres are just 12-18 at home this year, while Miami is 9-17 on the road. The Marlins were one of the worst pitching staffs in the MLB to start the season, but they have been on fire recently. Miami will turn to Jesus Luzardo, who has been brilliant in his last few outings. San Diego is going with Matt Waldron, who has been better in his last three starts, but has some ugly numbers. I do like how Miami has played recently and I think Luzardo can silence this San Diego lineup. My San Diego Padres vs Miami Marlins prediction is for the Marlins to get the win.
