The New York Mets and the San Diego Padres meet Friday in MLB action from Petco Park. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a San Diego Padres vs NY Mets Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The New York Mets will send out Paul Blackburn here and Blackburn is 5-3 with a 4.19 ERA and 58 strikeouts this season. This will be Blackburn’s second career start against the Padres. Joe Musgrove will start for the Padres here and Musgrove is 3-4 with a 4.97 ERA and 51 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the Mets, Musgrove is 1-4 with a 6.23 ERA and 33 strikeouts.
New York Mets Recap
The New York Mets will look to keep the ball rolling after starting the four-game set with an 8-3 win in Thursday’s series opener. The win put the Mets in the right direction to build on their series win over the Baltimore Orioles from earlier this week.
Mets Trying To Stay Afloat In NL Playoff Race
Pete Alonso has 27 home runs and 70 RBIs with 28 doubles and Francisco Lindor has 33 doubles of his own with 25 home runs and 73 RBIs along with 25 stolen bases. Brandon Nimmo has 72 RBIs and 126 strikeouts while Lindor has a team-high 140 hits and Harrison Bader has 15 stolen bases as well this season.
San Diego Padres Recap
The San Diego Padres will try to bounce back after a frustrating showing in Thursday’s series opener. The loss put the Padres behind the 8-ball early in terms of trying to build on their series win over the Minnesota Twins to start the week.
Padres Trying To Hang With Dodgers Atop NL West
Jurickson Profar has 131 hits along with a .290 batting average and 22 doubles with 20 homers and 77 RBIs. Jake Cronenworth has 73 RBIs while Fernando Tatis Jr. has belted 14 home runs, 86 hits, 71 strikeouts and 8 stolen bases as well this season, but is out of the lineup because of injury. Manny Machado has 20 home runs and 73 RBIs but also has 98 strikeouts while Ha-Seong Kim has 94 hits with 3 triples, 16 doubles, 11 home runs, 47 RBIs and a team-high 22 stolen bases.
San Diego Padres vs NY Mets Prediction
I’m leaning towards the Mets here. I don’t love the Mets long term, but I’m still not 100% sold on Joe Musgrove as of yet, and think the Mets have something cooking here. The Mets bullpen is always going to be a concern, but Paul Blackburn’s pitched well for his new team for the most part, and the Mets’ bats looked excellent on Thursday. The game was a lot closer than the final score indicated, but I still think the Mets can add another win here. Give me New York.
