The Chicago Cubs and the San Francisco Giants meet Sunday in MLB action from Oracle Park. This will be the finale in a three-game weekend series. In Friday’s opener the Cubs eked out a victory. On Saturday in game two Chicago kept it up with a shutout win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Chicago Cubs
The Cubs bagged all their runs in the seventh inning Friday, powering out a comeback win 3-2. On Saturday Chicago scored two in the fifth during a 4-0 victory. Starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks went 8.0 innings with one hit and one walk alongside three Ks.
For the starter job on Sunday Chicago will send out Hayden Wesneski. In his 10 games (nine starts) this year Wesneski is 2-2 with a 4.72 ERA and 36 Ks in 47.2 innings. Wesneski is 5-4 with a 3.68 ERA in 16 career games (13 starts).
San Francisco Giants
Over on the Giants’ side, they managed seven team hits in the Friday opener but couldn’t recover from the tough seventh inning. On Saturday San Francisco had just one hit in the defeat.
In the starting role Sunday, San Francisco didn’t immediately announce a name.
The Cubs are 16-35 in their last 51 Sunday games and 12-25 in their last 37 versus the NL West. Chicago is 1-7 in their last eight in game three of a series.
Meanwhile, the Giants are 1-5 in their last six Sunday games and the over is 4-1 in their last five Sunday games. The over is 8-2 in San Francisco’s last 10 in game three of a series.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll take a stab on Chicago in this one. Wesneski has been pretty good over his last two outings, totaling 8.1 innings with three earned on three hits and three walks. He’ll need a solid 4-5 frames in this one to set Chicago up, though. On Saturday the Cubs were able to take advantage of Jakob Junis (2.2 innings; four earned; five hits; one walk; five Ks) but didn’t do much offensively otherwise. Still, I think Chicago will make it a sweep here.
