The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Indians meet in MLB action from Progressive Field on Tuesday night.
The St. Louis Cardinals will look to build on their 10-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds from Sunday. Harrison Bader had a home run and three RBIs while Tyler O’Neill and Dylan Carlson each had a home run and two RBIs. Nolan Arenado added a solo home run and a triple while going 3 for 5 at the dish and Tommy Edman had a double and an RBI while Andrew Kinzner added a double and Paul DeJong added a base knock of his own to finish off the offense for the Cardinals in the win. Johan Oviedo gave up three runs on five hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Ryan Helsley got the win to improve his record to 5-4 on the year. Adam Wainwright will start here and is 7-6 with a 3.56 ERA and 111 strikeouts this season.
The Cleveland Indians will attempt to build on a 3-2 win over the Rays on Sunday. Cesar Hernandez had a solo home run, going 2 for 4 at the dish while Harold Ramirez and Bobby Bradley each had an RBI to cap off the scoring for the Indians in the win. Amed Rosario had two hits as well while Oscar Mercado and Ernie Clement each had a base hit as the Tribe mustered up seven hits as a team in the win. Triston McKenzie allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Emmanuel Clase closed the 9th for his 12th save after James Karinchak got the win to improve to 7-2 on the year. Cal Quantrill will get the start here and is 2-2 with a 3.84 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season.
St. Louis is 6-16 in their last 22 road games and 2-6 in their last 8 games against the AL Central while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 series-opening games. Cleveland is 4-9 in their last 13 home games and 2-5 in their last 7 games overall while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games following an off day.
I get the case that could be made for the Indians at home as I’m not really sure what the Cardinals are right now and their from has been hard to get a feel for. However, I don’t feel good backing Cal Quantrill on most occasions, and with Adam Wainwright on the other side, who is looking more and more like he’s the old Wainwright that was a Cy Young contender year in and year out lately, I think you have to side with the Cardinals in this spot, potentially for the first five but I’m going full game with this one.
