The Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers meet Wednesday in MLB action from Globe Life Field. This will be the third installment in a four-game series this week. Detroit Tigers 

The Tigers scored three runs in the third inning Monday, eventually powering out a 7-2 opener victory. On Tuesday Detroit had an early 2-0 lead but ultimately lost 8-3. Starting pitcher Matt Manning lasted 5.2 innings with two earned on three hits and four walks. 

It’ll be Joey Wentz in the starting role for the Tigers on Wednesday. Across his 15 games (14 starts) this year Wentz is 1-8 with a 6.72 ERA and 61 Ks in 67.0 innings. Wentz is 3-10 with a 5.51 career ERA in 22 games (21 starts). 

Texas Rangers 

Over on the Rangers’ side, they had an early lead Monday but couldn’t score past the fourth inning. On Tuesday Texas scored five runs in the eighth inning to cap off the victory. Martin Perez managed 6.0 innings as starter with two earned on four hits and two walks. 

Dane Dunning will take the mound for the start on Wednesday. In his 17 games (nine starts) this year Dunning is 6-1 with a 2.76 ERA and 41 strikeouts over 71.2 innings. Dunning is 17-19 with a 4.11 ERA in 80 career games (70 starts). 

The Tigers are 53-113 in their last 166 versus the AL West and 1-5 in their last six in game three of a series. The over is 5-1 in Detroit’s last six Wednesday games. 

Meanwhile, the Rangers are 6-2 in their last eight at home versus a lefty starter and 17-8 in their last 25 in game three of a series. Texas is 18-37 in their last 55 Wednesday games. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll stay with Texas in this one. The line’s probably too thick to mess with, though. Dunning has pitched well over his last pair, combining for four earned on 11 hits and three walks in 11.0 innings. He’s 1-0 in that time. As for Wentz, he’s lost his last pair but hasn’t really pitched too badly with five earned over 11.0 frames. On Tuesday the Rangers were a little slow at the plate over the first five innings but really turned it on late en route to 12 team hits. I like Texas to keep it going in game three.
