The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals meet in an NL East division matchup in MLB action from Nationals Park on Sunday.

The New York Mets will look to rebound after having to settle for a split in Saturday’s double header winning game one 11-9 before a 4-3 loss in game two. Game one saw Francisco Lindor put up four RBIs with a home run while Michael Conforto had a pair of RBIs with a home run as well. Marcus Stroman threw five innings of three-run ball in the start, but it was Trevor May that got the win in relief to improve to 7-2 while Heath Hembree closed the 9th for his 9th save. Game two saw Kevin Pillar log a two-run home run while Michael Conforto had two hits with an RBI and Pete Alonso added a double as the Mets had just four hits as a team in the loss. Tylor Megill took the loss, falling to 2-4 on the year after allowing four runs on seven hits with eight K’s over six innings of work. Taijuan Walker will start here and is 7-9 with a 3.89 ERA and 123 strikeouts this season.

The Washington Nationals will try to rebound after settling for their split with New York on Saturday. Game one saw Andrew Stevenson and Alcides Escobar do the bulk of Washington’s damage with three RBIs apiece, with Stevenson logging a home run while Escobar had a double. Erick Fedde allowed four runs on nine hits in three innings in the start, but it was Kyle Finnegan who took the loss in relief to fall to 4-6. Game two saw Alcides Escobar log a two-run home run while Lane Thomas had a solo shot and Carter Kieboom added an RBI. Josh Rogers got the win to improve to 1-0 while Finnegan successfully closed out the final inning for his 7th save. Josiah Gray will start here and is 0-2 with a 4.73 ERA and 46 strikeouts this season.

New York is 4-9 in their last 13 games against a right-handed starter and 3-9 in their last 12 road games while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 games against a right-handed starter. Washington is 0-4 in their last 4 Sunday games and 0-4 in their last 4 game four matchups while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games as a home underdog.

Man, talk about a matchup between starters that I want no part of. Taijuan Walker hasn’t done anything right since the all-star break as he’s fallen off of a cliff, while Josiah Gray has really yet to put it all together in a Nationals uniform to get the job done. Instead, I’m going to side with the over once again as I see the starters getting hit around a fair bit and for the bullpens to be relatively ineffective as well.
