Minnesota Twins
The Twins managed a 7-1 win on Thursday over the Royals, then took an 8-6 victory in game two. After a 3-2 loss on Saturday Minnesota won the series with an 8-4 game four victory. Starter Sonny Gray finished with 6.0 innings, five hits, one earned and a walk.
For the starter job in the Tuesday matchup the Twins will send out Joe Ryan. In his five starts this year Ryan is 5-0 with a 2.81 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 32.0 innings. Ryan is 20-9 with a 3.50 ERA in 37 starts over his career.
Chicago White Sox
Over on the White Sox’ side, they didn’t have much luck versus the Rays over the weekend. Chicago lost 14-5, 3-2 and 12-3 in the first three games before a 12-9 win on Sunday. Finale starter Mike Clevinger put up 5.0 innings with two earned on seven hits and one walk.
The Twins are 5-1 in their last six after an off day and 6-2 in their last eight overall. Minnesota is 17-36 in their last 53 road games.
Meanwhile, the White Sox are 3-8 in their last 11 Tuesday games and 8-20 in their last 28 after an off day. Chicago is 1-4 in their last five at home.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stick with the Twins in this one. Ryan is having a great year so far. In his last three outings combined, Ryan is 3-0 with 20.0 innings, five earned runs, 16 hits and one walk. As for Kopech, he’s given up nine earned in 10.0 innings on 12 hits and six walks over his last two starts. Chicago should fare a little better in this series than they did against a tough Rays team over the weekend, but if Ryan has another solid outing Minnesota should have the winning advantage in the opener.
