The Los Angeles Angels and the New York Yankees meet Tuesday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium. The Angels are fresh off a weekend series versus the Red Sox. Los Angeles lost the first three games in that set, then on Monday the Angels eked out a victory. As for the Yankees, they played the Twins over the weekend. The Angels took losses to the Red Sox 5-3 Friday, 9-7 Saturday and 2-1 in the Sunday game. In the Monday finale, Los Angeles prevented the sweep with a 5-4 win. Starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani put up 2.0 innings with one earned, one walk, no hits and three Ks.
As starter for the Tuesday game, the Angels will send out Jose Suarez. In his two starts so far this year Suarez is 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA and six Ks in 8.1 innings. Suarez is 18-25 with a 5.21 ERA over 68 career games (53 starts).
New York YankeesÂ
Over on the Yankees’ side, they fell to the Twins 11-2 Thursday and 4-3 Friday but then bounced back for wins 6-1 Saturday and 2-0 Sunday to even the series. In the finale New York got a complete-game shutout from Gerrit Cole with just two hits, one walk and 10 Ks.Â
Clarke Schmidt will take the mound for the Yankees on Tuesday. In his three starts without a decision so far, Schmidt has an 8.44 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 10.2 frames. Schmidt holds a career ERA of 4.33 with a 5-6 record in 37 games (eight starts).
The Angels are 7-25 in their last 32 versus the AL East and 1-5 in their last six in game one of a series. LA is 20-44 in their last 64 versus a team with a winning record.Â
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 4-9 in their last 13 versus a lefty starter and 43-20 in their last 63 versus a team with a losing record. New York is 39-15 in their last 54 Tuesday games.Â

I’ll stick with the Yankees in this one. Problaby not touching it, though. Schmidt has been pretty shaky over his three starts so far; he hasn’t gotten past 4.0 innings yet and Schmidt has also given up three earned or more in each outing. As for Suarez, he hasn’t gotten past 4.1 innings himself and he’s given up 10 earned in 8.1 innings total. It’s going to take a good start from Schmidt (with minimal damage) and some offensive support, but the Yankees should be in control here.
