Slow starts have been the theme for the Memphis Grizzlies in the first week of action. Memphis finds themselves with a 1-2 record through the first handful of games and it’s no coincidence that in both losses, they have been trailing by a large amount early on in the proceedings. Against San Antonio in their season opener, they were outscored 30-7 in the second quarter, which saw them eventually fall 101-94. In their last game in Dallas on Saturday, they trailed 32-16 at the first break, which proved too large of a margin to peg back.
Brad Stevens is yet to win a game as the Boston Celtics head coach as his team fell to 0-3 on the young season following their 87-77 loss in Detroit on Sunday night. Boston, who blew a 22-point lead to the Milwaukee Bucks in their home opener on Friday night, found themselves trailing by as many as 15 points on Sunday, however, they managed claw their way back to take a 65-63 lead in the fourth quarter. That would be close as they would come as the Pistons went on a 10-0 run shortly after to ensure the Celtics remain winless on the season. Rookie Kelly Olynyk led the way with 15 points while Jordan Crawford added 13 for the Celtics.
It’s conceivable that Boston could be the worst team in the league this season. I know we are barley a week in and teams like Philly, Orlando and Phoenix will drop off, but still. Given how Boston looked in Detroit last night, I don’t see any scenario where you take them in this one. Granted, Memphis hasn’t looked all that crash hot either, but that just means they are going to come out with a purpose in this one. The under looks like it has real value too....
