About two weeks ago, I got sucked into thinking the Boston Celtics might actually be an ok offensive team after they poured in 111 and 120 points in back to back wins over Orlando and Miami. Well, I was wrong, because since that they have struggled to put the ball in the basket, averaging just 89 points over their last five games. On the season, the Celtics rank 26th in points per game at 93.4 and they are the second-worst assist team in the NBA, dishing out a mere 17.7 dimes per game, which is understandable given the players on this roster and the fact that Rajon Rondo is missing.
Even though the Indiana Pacers come into tonight’s game having lost just once in their first 11 starts, their offensive numbers aren’t all that much better than Boston’s as they are averaging just 96.4 points per game and dishing out 20.2 assists, which both rank in the bottom third in the league. However, their defense numbers in the early going have been scary good as they are holding foes to just 87.2 points per contest.
You can probably guess what my pick is going to be by now. While I’m not in love with playing unders, simply cause I don’t like to cheer for teams to miss shots, you have to take them when the opptunity presents itself. It’s pretty rare for the Celtics to score over 90 points these days and I shudder to think what his going to happen tonight against one of the best defensive teams we have seen in years. The under is 11-3 in the Pacers last 14 games overall and 13-6 in the Celtics last 19 overall. Enough said…
