The struggling New York Knicks hope to avoid a fifth straight loss tonight when they play the Washington Wizards.
The Knicks will be looking to avoid a fifth straight loss after falling to the Pacers by 103-96 in overtime on Wednesday. Carmelo had a massive night of 30 points and a season-high 18 rebounds, while JR Smith added 21 points off the bench, but when the game went into overtime, the Knicks just had no answer for Paul George who scored nine of his 35 points in the extra period. As a team, the Knicks shot just 37 percent from the field, the worst culprit being Andrea Bargnani who shot four for 16 for his 10 points, but Melo wasn't much better as he shot just 10 of 28 from the field. The Knicks were again without injured starters Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton while Amare Stoudemire sat out because it was the second night of a back to back set.
Meanwhile, the Wizards just fell short of a third straight victory after losing to the Raptors by 96-88 last night despite a season-high 37 points from John Wall. However, that still wasn't enough as the Wizards were fighting back from a 16-point deficit after a horrendous second quarter where they totalled just 11 points. Bradley Beal scored 17 points on seven of 21 shooting and Nene added 10 points, but no other Wizard finished in double figures. With the loss, Washington drop to 4-8 on the season and 2-6 on the road.
In ATS trends, the Knicks are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall, while the Wizards are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record.
Wall put on a show last night against the Raptors but it still wasn't enough because he basically got no help outside of Beal, and the same can be said for Melo and his Knicks. With that being said, I feel that this game is basically a coin flip so in these situations I always prefer to take the underdog with any points I can get.
