What’s going on with the Golden State Warriors at home this season? Following their surprising 88-85 loss at the hands of the visiting Washington Wizards on Wednesday night, the Warriors have now dropped four of their last six at Oracle Arena and they have failed to cover the spread in five of those contests. In fact, Golden State is just 7-13-1 against the spread at home on the season, which is surprising given how dominate they have been their the last couple of seasons. It’s been a quick turnaround for a Warriors team that had just won 10 games on the trot over Christmas and New Year period and they now find themselves losers of six of their last nine overall.
On the other hand, the Los Angeles Clippers continue to pile up the wins despite being without their best player in Chris Paul. The Clippers managed to take down the Washington Wizards in LA last night 110-103 to improve to 10-3 without the All-Star guard. Many thought that Los Angles would struggle on offense without Paul, however, they have actually improved their numbers and they have scored 109 points or more in each of their last four outings and nine of 13 overall.
I know a lot of people are going to fade Golden State here, and rightfully so given their record at home in the New Year, but this is a pretty bad spot for LA. See, the Clippers just completely a seven-game Eastern Conference road trip in just 10 days, then they only had one day to rest before playing and defeating the Wizards last night. Now they have to hit the road again and come up against a Warriors team that is going to desperate to turn things around. Not to mention that Golden State has only played the four home games since the 18th of the month, so they should be nice and rested for this game.
I’m not saying this is similar in anyway, but the Portland Trail Blazers recently went into Minnesota and got the win, then they had to face the Warriors at home the next night, which happened to be their third game in four nights and ended up losing 103-88. I doubt the same happens tonight, but all that travelling has to take it’s toll on the Clippers and I think tonight might be that night. I wouldn’t touch this game personally, but I’m taking the home team here with not a huge deal of confidence...
