The Dallas Mavericks play host to the San Antonio Spurs at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday night.
The San Antonio Spurs haven’t been at their best lately as they lost three of their last five games heading into the All-Star break after getting stopped by the Thunder in a 107-102 home loss on Thursday. DeMar DeRozan led the team with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists, Trey Lyles added 15 points with 10 rebounds on seven of nine shooting while Dejounte Murray chipped in with 14 points and nine assists. As a team, the Spurs shot 47 percent from the field and 10 of 31 from the 3-point line as they poured in 37 points in the second quarter to lead by as many as 14 points in the first half, before going ice-cold in the second half where they were outscored by 57-41. The Spurs committed 19 turnovers and were outscored at the free throw line by 21-12.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been in fine form as they’ve won 10 of their past 13 games and they will be gunning for a fourth straight victory after taking down the Thunder in a 87-78 home win on Wednesday. Kristaps Porzingis led the team with 19 points and 13 rebounds, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 19 points off the bench while Josh Richardson chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot just 48 percent from the field and eight of 40 from the 3-point line as they struggled to create their usual offense without Luka Doncic who sat this one out. However, the Mavericks made up for their lack of scoring with defensive effort as they held the Thunder to a season-low 78 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games, 20-8 ATS in their last 28 games as a road underdog and 7-3 ATS in the last 10 games following a loss. The Mavericks are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games, 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record and 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings overall and the Spurs are 5-12 ATS in the last 17 meetings overall.
The Spurs were on a decent run before falling flat on their faces against the streaky Thunder in their last outing, while the Mavericks have been in great form and they will take plenty of confidence with Doncic sitting out their last win. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we saw the Spurs put together their best game of the season to pull off the upset here, but the Mavericks are 12-5 ATS in the last 17 meetings overall and I think they will maintain their momentum with another win and cover here.
