The Minnesota Timberwolves invade the Vivint Arena to take on the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in great form as they’ve won seven of their last 11 games overall and they will be hoping to bounce back here after getting routed by the Nuggets in a 146-112 road loss last night. Anthony Edwards led the team in scoring with 19 points on seven of 11 shooting, Luka Garza added 19 points of the bench while D’Angelo Russell chipped in with 10 points. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 47 percent from the field and 10 of 35 from the 3-point line, but this game was over before halftime as the Timberwolves got off to a terrible start and were already trailing by 49-19 in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have been in decent form as they’ve won five of their last nine games, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting run over by the Mavericks in a 124-111 loss on Monday. Jordan Clarkson led the team with 26 points, Lauri Markkanen added 19 points while Kelly Olynyk chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Jazz shot 47 percent from the field and just six of 31 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates with 37 points in the first quarter to take the early 15-point lead, but they couldn’t hold off the Mavericks and eventually fell in the fourth quarter where they leaked 35 points to allow the Mavericks to pull away late.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 4-1 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days rest, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Jazz are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games against a team with a losing road record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record.
Head to head, the over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings overall and the Timberwolves are 5-0-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Utah.
The Timberwolves are shorthanded again as Austin Rivers is still suspended while Kyle Anderson is currently listed as day to day. The Jazz have ruled out Micah Potter and they are keeping an eye on Jarred Vanderbilt who is questionable. The Timberwolves were quietly building some good momentum before they ran into the Nuggets last night, while the Jazz are just alternating wins and losses and they just blew a 15-point lead against a Luka-less Mavericks team. The Jazz have opened as favorites at home which is no surprise, but the Timberwolves are 5-0-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Utah and I think they can spring the minor upset here.
