The Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Lakers collide at the crypto.com Arena on Sunday night.
The Memphis Grizzlies have been in stellar form as they’ve won 18 of their past 22 games overall and they will be gunning for a ninth straight victory after routing the Clippers in a 123-108 road win on Saturday. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the team with 26 points, eight rebounds and five blocks, Desmond Bane added 23 points with seven rebounds and four assists while Tyus Jones chipped in with 18 points and five assists. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 44 percent from the field and 12 of 38 from the 3-point line as they got off to a sloppy start and trailed by 12 points after allowing 36 points in the first quarter, but they fought back and never looked in danger after exploding for 38 points in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been in great shape as they’ve won five of their past six games and they will be gunning for a fifth straight victory after routing the Hawks in a 134-118 home win on Friday. LeBron James led the team with 32 points, nine rebounds and four steals, Malik Monk added 29 points, Avery Bradley and Talen Horton-Tucker each scored 21 points while Russell Westbrook tallied nine points with 11 rebounds and 13 assists. As a team, the Lakers shot 49 percent from the field and 17 of 41 from the 3-point line but they couldn’t gain the ascendancy until the third quarter where they poured in 37 points to take control.
Looking at the betting trends, the Grizzlies are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 road games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games playing on zero days’ rest. The Lakers are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a winning record, 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games against a team above. 600 and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the under is 12-2 in the last 14 meetings overall and the Grizzlies are 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Los Angeles. The Grizzlies could be shorthanded once again as Ja Morant and Dillon Brooks are both listed as day to day while the Lakers are just about at full strength except for the injured Anthony Davis. The Grizzlies are a little banged up, but they’ve quietly been one of the hottest teams in the league so I’m not surprised that the line is so short in this one. You can make an argument for either side, but assuming that the Grizzlies are without Morant and Brooks, I’ll lean towards the Lakers to get the narrow win at home.
