The San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies duke it out once again at the FedExForum on Wednesday night in NBA action.
The San Antonio Spurs have continued their struggles this season as they’ve lost five of their last six games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling short against the Grizzlies in a 121-113 road loss on Monday. Tre Jones led the team with 18 points and seven assists, Josh Richardson added 16 points and five assists off the bench while Jakob Poeltl and Romeo Langford each scored 13 points. As a team, the Spurs shot 45 percent from the field and 11 of 32 from the 3-point line as they allowed the Grizzlies off to a flyer with 35 points in the first quarter to put them behind by double-digits early, before they fizzled out with just 21 points in the fourth quarter to allow the Grizzlies to pull away late.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been in red-hot form as they are now gunning for an eighth straight victory after beating the Spurs on Monday. Tyus Jones led the team with 24 points and six assists, Jaren Jackson Jr. added 16 points while Dillon Brooks and Desmond Bane each scored 15 points. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 49 percent from the field and 11 of 26 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 72 points in the first half, before they held the Spurs to just 21 points in the fourth quarter to escape with a narrow victory. It was a real balanced scoring effort from the Grizzlies as they had a total of seven players finish in double figures in scoring.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 road games, 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. The Grizzlies are 35-15-1 ATS in their last 51 home games, 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 games following a win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall.
The Spurs could be shorthanded once again as Keita Bates-Diop and Keldon Johnson are both questionable, while the Grizzlies have ruled out Brandon Clarke for this one. The line is quite hefty for this one which isn’t too surprising as I don’t see the Grizzlies losing this one, but they weren’t able to put away the Spurs on Monday and I think we’re going to see more of the same in this one as the Spurs hang around and get the backdoor cover.
