The Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves collide at the Target Center on Saturday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their first five games and they will be looking to stay hot after last night’s 106-75 home win over the Mavericks. Will Barton led the team in scoring with 17 points and six assists, Aaron Gordon added 13 points, Michael Porter Jr. scored 12 points while Nikola Jokic racked up 11 points with 16 rebounds and eight assists. As a team, the Nuggets shot 51 percent from the field and 11 of 36 from the 3-point line, but this win was all about their defense as they set the tone by holding the Mavericks to just 21 points in the first quarter to take the early lead, before holding the Mavericks to just 12 points in the third quarter to lead by as many as 35 points.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their first four games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the Bucks in a 113-108 road win on Wednesday. D’Angelo Russell led the team with 29 points and six assists, Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards each scored 25 points while Jarred Vanderbilt chipped in with 10 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 47 percent from the field and 13 of 45 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates with a season-high 44 points in the first quarter, before holding the Bucks to just 21 points in the third quarter to lead by as many as 20 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a wining record and 1-7 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Timberwolves are 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games and 9-23 ATS in their last 32 games playing on two days’ rest.
Head to head, the under is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Minnesota and the Nuggets are 22-4-1 ATS in last 27 meetings in Minnesota.
The Nuggets will be high on confidence after last night’s dominant win over the Mavericks and the same can be said about the Timberwolves who are fresh off an upset win over the Bucks. The Nuggets are 22-4-1 ATS in the last 27 meetings in Minnesota, but they are still shorthanded and are playing this one on zero days’ rest. With that being said, I’m leaning towards the Timberwolves to build some more momentum with another win over a playoff-bound opponent.
