The Charlotte Hornets and the Phoenix Suns collide at the Footprint Center on Sunday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in a slump as they’ve lost seven of their past 10 games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting stopped by the Trail Blazers in a 125-116 road loss on Friday. LaMelo Ball led the team with 27 points and five assists on 11 of 17 shooting, Kelly Oubre Jr. added 18 points off the bench, PJ Washington scored 16 points while Miles Bridges chipped in with 14 points and 11 assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 47 percent from the field and 13 of 37 from the 3-point line, but this game was over before it really began as they trailed by double-digits early after allowing 81 points in the first half, before the reserves got hot in the second half to keep the final scores respectable. Gordon Hayward had a rough night as he scored just six points on two of eight shooting while Terry Rozier scored just two points on one of 10 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns have been in red-hot form as they’ve won 22 of their past 24 games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after making light work of the Wizards in a 118-98 home win on Thursday. JaVale McGee led the team in scoring with 17 points off the bench, Landry Shamet added 16 points, DeAndre Ayton added 15 points with 10 rebounds and four assists while Chris Paul chipped in with 12 points and six assists. As a team, the Suns shot 53 percent from the field and nine of 29 from the 3-point line as they built a 12-point halftime lead, before running away with it in the second half where the lead grew to 26 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 road games, 11-2 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Suns are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win of more than 10 points and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the over is 10-3 in the last 13 meetings overall and the Hornets are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Hornets have been well below their best lately as they’ve been hit hard by injuries, but they’re just about at full strength once again so they will be eager to get back on track after getting routed by the Trail Blazers on Friday. The Suns have been one of the hottest teams in the league, they will be well-rested as they haven’t played since Thursday when they blew out the Wizards. The Suns are still without Devin Booker, but I still think they get the job done behind big games from Paul and Ayton.
