The Houston Rockets have cooled off a bit recently as they’ve split their last eight games, but they will be eager to build some momentum after snapping a two-game skid with a 115-101 win over the Nuggets on Saturday. Kevin Durant led the team with 31 points, six rebounds and five assists, Reed Sheppard provided the spark off the bench with 28 points and six assists on nine of 15 shooting while Jabari Smith Jr chipped in with 22 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, the Rockets shot 51 percent from the field and 19 of 35 from the 3-point line, but this game was won on defense as they limited the Nuggets to just 16 points in the second quarter to take the lead into halftime. They kept the pressure on until the lead ballooned to 21 points.

Meanwhile, the Sacramento Kings have been in terrible shape as they’ve lost nine of their last 10 games overall and they are now on a five-game losing streak after falling short to the Trail Blazers in a 98-93 loss last night. Dennis Schroder led the team with 21 points and six assists off the bench, Maxime Raynaud added 17 points with 12 rebounds while Keegan Murray and DeMar DeRozan each scored 15 points. As a team, the Kings shot just 38 percent from the field and six of 31 from the 3-point line, but they were able to hang tough with the Trail Blazers in a close contest until late in the fourth quarter. The Trail Blazers went on a crucial 6-0 run to start to pull away. Russell Westbrook had a rough game as he shot just two of 10 from the field to finish with seven points and five turnovers.

The Rockets are still shorthanded with Fred VanVleet, Dorian Finney-Smith and Tari Eason all out, while the Kings have ruled out Zach LaVine, Domantas Sabonis and Drew Eubanks.  The Rockets haven’t been at their best lately, but they would’ve taken plenty of confidence from their big statement win at Denver on Saturday. In contrast, the Kings have continued their downward spiral with their ninth loss in 10 games, and now they have to back up and take on the rockets on zero days’ rest. The line was always going to be hefty for this matchup, but I think the Rockets take care of business and cover with ease on the road.
