The Denver Nuggets travel to the Vivint Arena to do battle with the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in red-hot form as they’ve won six of their past eight games, but they will be looking to bounce back in this one after having their five-game win streak halted by the Timberwolves in a 130-115 road loss last night. Nikola Jokic led the team with 21 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists, Will Barton added 13 points while Jeff Green chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Nuggets shot 49 percent from the field and 19 of 45 from the 3-point line as they struggled right from the start and trailed in this one by as many as 30 points before making a run in the fourth quarter to keep the final margin respectable.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have been in terrible shape lately as they’ve lost 11 of their past 13 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a five-game slide after getting routed by the Timberwolves in a 126-106 road loss on Sunday. Bojan Bogdanovic led the team with 23 points on seven of 11 shooting, Mike Conley added 22 points with five assists while Jordan Clarkson chipped in with 17 points and five assists off the bench. As a team, the Jazz shot 46 percent from the field and 15 of 40 from the 3-point line as they suffered another slow start and scored just 20 points in the first quarter, before getting blown out in the third quarter where the Timberwolves poured 40 points on them. Rudy Gay finished with just five points on two of eight shooting while Joe Ingles suffered a season-ending injury.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are -0-5-1 ATS in their last six games playing on zero days’ rest, 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Jazz are 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 home games, 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games playing on two days’ rest and 5-17-2 ATS in their last 24 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Utah, the Nuggets are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall and the Nuggets are 4-13 ATS in the last 17 meetings in Utah.
The Nuggets will again be without DeMarcus Cousins and Jamal Murray, while the Jazz are missing a bunch of players including Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert and maybe Hassan Whiteside who is listed as day to day. The Nuggets will be kicking themselves after last night’s performance against the Timberwolves as they were rolling through teams before that loss, while the Jazz will take any win they can get at this point as they’re currently mired in their worst slump in recent seasons. The Jazz will snap out of their funk sooner rather than later and they have the edge in betting trends, but with all their injuries, I have to side with the Nuggets to escape with the win in this spot behind a big game from Jokic.
