The New York Knicks invade the Vivint Arena to do battle with the Utah Jazz on Monday night.
The New York Knicks have been in a real slump lately as they’ve lost eight of their past 10 games overall and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling short to the Lakers in a 122-115 overtime road loss on Saturday. RJ Barrett led the team with 36 points, eight rebounds and five assists on 13 of 28 shooting, Julius Randle added 32 points with 16 rebounds and seven assists while Evan Fournier chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Knicks shot just 39 percent from the field and 11 of 38 from the 3-point line as they squandered an early 21-point lead before rallying late to force overtime where they managed just four points to allow the Lakers to snatch the game from them late.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have been in a major slump as they’ve lost 11 of their past 15 games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after routing the Nets in a 125-102 home win on Friday. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 27 points and six assists on eight of 10 shooting, Bojan Bogdanovic added 19 points with 11 rebounds and four assists while Eric Paschall chipped in with 16 points off the bench. As a team, the Jazz shot 56 percent from the field and 17 of 38 from the 3-point line as they hit the ground running and poured in 68 points in the first half to take the double-digit lead into halftime, before exploding for 37 points in the third quarter to push the lead out to 34 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Knicks are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games, 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team above .600 and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Jazz are 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 games playing on two days’ rest, 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 home games and 6-18-2 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings overall, the Knicks are 12-4 ATS in the last 16 meetings in Utah and the Knicks are 25-7 ATS in the last 32 meetings overall.
The Knicks could really do with a win to get them out of their funk, but you have to wonder how they’re going to come out in this one after squandering a 21-point lead in their overtime loss on Saturday, The Jazz haven’t been much better as they were mired in their worst slump of the season, but they’ve won their last two and will take plenty of confidence from their blowout win over the Nets on Friday. The Jazz could be shorthanded as Rudy Gobert is out, while Rudy Gay and Jordan Clarkson are listed as questionable, but I still think they have enough firepower to get the win and cover at home.
