The San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets meet Sunday in NFL action from MetLife Stadium.

The 49ers enter this game at 0-1 on the young 2020 season. San Francisco took a close loss at home 24-20 to the Cardinals in Week 1. As for the Jets, they fared even worse against AFC East rival Buffalo in Week 1. New York fell in that one 27-17, and the game wasn’t even that close. The 49ers had a shaky game in Week 1, but were in control until the fourth quarter. San Francisco even held a 13-10 lead going into the locker room. A scoreless third and a 14-7 deficit in the final period ultimately sealed the Niners’ fate in the 24-20 defeat, however.

San Francisco quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had a decent line in his 2020 debut, going 19-of-33 for 259 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Raheem Mostert led the Niners’ running game with 15 carries for 56 yards, and also led the receiving corps. Mostert hauled in four catches for 95 yards and a touchdown in a nice outing.

Over on the Jets’ side, they stalled out in Week 1 versus Buffalo—who are a trendy pick to win the division this year. New York’s offense was inept in the first two quarters, and took a 21-3 deficit into the locker room. New York managed to hold the Bills to six points in the second half, but still couldn’t catch up in the 27-17 loss.

Jets quarterback Sam Darnold logged 215 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 1 loss. There wasn’t much of a running game going on, as Frank Gore and Le’Veon Bell posted a combined 38 yards on 12 carries. Jamison Citemder was just about the only bright spot for the Jets with seven catches for 115 yards and a TD.

The 49ers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games on turf and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games in Week 2. San Francisco is 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 games as a favorite and 0-4-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record.

Meanwhile, the Jets are 4-1 ATS in their last five games as an underdog and 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a home underdog. New York is 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 games on turf and 2-6 ATS versus a team with a losing record.

Pick: Going with San Francisco. This one opened up with the Niners favored by four, which is almost laughable considering how bad the Jets looked in Week 1. The line has thickened up quite a bit since then, but San Francisco is still good to me at anything below a couple of scores. The New York defense should be able to keep this one semi-manageable, but with the way the offense has sputtered over the past few seasons I’m not depending on the Jets for anything.
