The New Orleans Saints probably didn’t expect to be 1-2 at this point of the season, but they need to forget about the last couple of games and turn it around here. To start the season the Saints beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but since that point they have lost to the Las Vegas Raiders and the Green Bay Packers. One of the big problems for this team has been injuries and they will be without Michael Thomas again in this game. In the last game Drew Brees threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns, but don’t let that fool you, he didn’t look great and they need more from him if they want to win this game, and be a contender in the NFC.

On the other side of this matchup is the Detroit Lions who started off their season with back to back losses but they pulled off the upset in their last game against the Arizona Cardinals. Each of the two losses the Lions got out to fast starts, but they couldn’t keep it up and ended up losing both of the games. Matthew Stafford has looked good all season and in the last game against the Cardinals, he threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, this season the Lions are giving up 30.7 points per game and in this one they are going to have their hands full.

The Saints are 12-2 against the spread in their last 14 games played in Week 4. The under is 9-4 in the Saints last 13 games played in October. The over is 7-1 in the Lions last eight home games. The Lions are 3-11 against the spread in their last 14 games overall. The over is 7-2 in the Lions last nine games played on field turf. The Saints are 6-2 against the spread in their eight games against the Lions.

These are two defenses who have struggled this year and that will continue in this game. Look for both teams to struggle to score in this game and that is going to lead to this game going well over the posted total.
