The Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers meet Sunday in week 10 NFL action from University of Phoenix Stadium. The Panthers are coming off a game versus the Patriots. Carolina lost that one by 18 points. As for the Cards, they played the 49ers in their last outing, pulling off a two-touchdown victory. Carolina kicked off the year at 3-0 with wins over the Jets, Saints and Texans but then hit a four-game skid versus the Cowboys, Eagles, Vikings and Giants. Since then it’s been a 19-13 win over the Falcons and a 24-6 loss to the Patriots this past weekend.
In the loss to New England, Carolina could only score in one quarter and was completely blanked in the second half. QB Sam Darnold put up 172 yards and three interceptions. Christian McCaffrey added 52 rush yards off 14 carries.
Over on the Cardinals’ side, they opened up on a nice run this season. Arizona took out the Titans, Vikings, Jaguars, Rams, 49ers, Browns and Texans over their first seven. The Cardinals would then lose 24-31 to the Packers before a 31-7 win over the 49ers.
In Sunday’s win over San Francisco, Arizona posted 14 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Colt McCoy finished on a 22-of-26 line for 249 yards and a score. James Conner would lead the rushers with his 96 yards and two touchdowns from 21 carries.
The Panthers are 7-1 ATS in their last eight as a road underdog and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games. Carolina is 4-1 ATS in their last five road games versus a team with a winning home record as well.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall and 9-21 ATS in their last 30 as a favorite. Arizona is also 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Arizona. Much of that is due to how out-of-sorts the Panthers have been looking lately. Carolina has six points or fewer in two of their last three games, with the outlier being 19 points against a bad Falcons team. The Panthers posted just 4.2 yards per play against the Patriots, with three turnovers and 10 penalties.
As for Arizona, they had a solid offensive day against San Francisco with 6.4 yards per play, 22 first downs and a 7-of-15 mark on third-down tries. I like Carolina to hang around here initially, but I think the Cardinals will pull away down the stretch and cover.
