Houston kicked off their year with a nice 37-21 win over the Jaguars, but then stumbled in week two versus the Browns in a 31-21 defeat. Houston gave up 355 total yards to Cleveland in the loss, including 156 on the ground and 6.2 yards per play on average.
In week three versus Carolina, the Texans’ fortunes remained the same in a 24-9 defeat. Houston QB Davis Mills put up 168 yards with a TD, and Mark Ingram led the rush with 21 yards on six carries. Brandin Cooks was the top receiver with his 112 yards from nine grabs.
Over on the Bills’ side, they had a rough loss at home versus the Steelers in their opener, falling 23-16. Buffalo was able to bounce back in their second game versus division rival Miami however, scoring 21 second-half points in a 35-0 blowout win.
Buffalo kept it rolling in their third game versus Washington, posting a 43-21 victory. Bills QB Josh Allen put up four TDs with 358 yards on 32-of-43 passing, and Cole Beasley hauled in 11 balls for 98 yards. Emmanuel Sanders added 94 yards and two scores off five catches as well.
The Texans are 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five versus the AFC. Houston is also 3-7 ATS versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, Buffalo is 4-0 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 4-1 ATS in their last five in week four. The Bills are 6-2 ATS in their last six at home as well.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Buffalo, but it’s admittedly a big number. The Bills have gotten their offense going pretty well over the last couple of weeks. In the Washington game, Buffalo put up 481 yards of total offense with 6.2 yards per play, 29 first downs and 9-of-15 on third-down tries.
As for the Texans, they couldn’t get much going against Carolina, posting just 193 total yards and 14 first downs. If Houston can’t figure out a way to get more efficient this week, it’s going to be a long afternoon.
