The Detroit Lions meet the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in week 9 NFL action from Ford Field in a meeting of teams who haven’t won much this season. The Eagles are fresh off an 11-point loss to the Raiders in their last appearance. As for the Lions, they played the Rams in their most recent game. Detroit lost by nine points in that one. Philadelphia kicked off the season with a nice 32-6 win over the Falcons, but then fell to the 49ers 17-11, the Cowboys 41-21 and the Chiefs 42-30 in their next trio. After a win over the Panthers, Philly lost 28-22 to the Buccaneers and 33-22 to the Raiders.

In the loss to Vegas, the Eagles gave up 17 points in the second quarter alone. QB Jalen Hurts put up 236 yards with two touchdowns, and, also led the rush with 13 carries for 61 yards. Dallas Goedert led the receivers on 70 yards from three catches.

Over on the Lions’ side, it’s been one long losing skid so far this year. Detroit has fallen to the 49ers 41-33, the Packers 35-17, the Ravens 19-17, the Bears 24-14, the Vikings 19-17, the Bengals 34-11 and the Rams 28-19.

In the loss to the Rams, Detroit had an early 10-3 lead but couldn’t hold on very long. QB Jared Goff had 268 yards with a score and two picks. Jamal Williams put up 57 yards rushing, and Kalif Raymond had 115 yards from six receptions.

The Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last four in Week 8 and 2-5 ATS versus a team with a losing record. Philly is 1-5 ATS in their last six on turf and 1-8 ATS in their last nine as a favorite.

Meanwhile, the Lions are 5-1 ATS in their last six on turf and 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS win. Detroit is 0-8 ATS in their last eight in week eight as well.

PICK: I’m sticking with Philly I suppose, but staying away. The Eagles had a few positives to take from the Raiders loss, with their 135 rush yards, 22 first downs and 8-of-16 mark on third-and fourth-down tries. Philadelphia also gave up 442 yards with 23 first downs and lost two fumbles, however.

As for the Lions, they had a couple of picks and eight penalties in their latest loss, but did do well on rush defense with just 47 yards allowed. LA played a clean game however, with zero turnovers and just four penalties. I like Detroit to hang around initially in this one, with the Eagles eventually pulling away for the cover.
