Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans 1/9/22 NFL Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans square off Sunday in a week 18 NFL showdown from NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The Tennessee Titans will look to add to their 34-3 win over the Miami Dolphins in their last game. Ryan Tannehill has thrown for 3,447 yards, 17 touchdowns and 14 interceptions on 66.9% passing while Derrick Henry leads the Titans with 937 rushing yards and 10 TDs and D’Onta Freeman has 497 rushing yards as well on the year. A.J. Brown leads the Titans with 801 receiving yards while Julio Jones has another 376 receiving yards and another four Titans have 200+ receiving yards as well this season. On defense, Kevin Byard leads the Texans with 83 total tackles and he also has a team-high 5 interceptions for the Titans this season. Harold Lnadry III also leads Tennessee with 12 sacks while Denico Autry has 9 sacks and Jeffery Simmons has 7.5 sacks as well this year for Tennessee.

The Houston Texans will try to bounce back and finish strong after a 23-7 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers last time out. Davis Mills has thrown for 2,363 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 66.5% passing while Rex Burkhead leads the Texans in rushing with 403 rushing yards this season. Brandin Cooks leads Houston’s receiving group with 1,011 receiving yards and 87 receptions while Nico Collins and Chris Conley each have 300+ receiving yards as well this season. On defense, Kamu Grugier-Hill leads the Texans with 101 total tackles while Jonathan Greenard has a team-high 8 sacks and Lonnie Johnson Jr.  and Desmond King II each have a team-high 3 interceptions this season.

Tennessee is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 division games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as a road favorite while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Houston is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 division games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games against a team with a winning road record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a home underdog.

I get why the Titans are big favorites here as the Texans have nothing to play for but pride and the Titans are in the driver’s seat for the top spot in the AFC. However, a win will simply do for the Titans, no style points are overly necessary and while revenge would be nice after the Texans took down Tennessee a few weeks ago, getting to the playoffs healthier and getting an extra week to rest up would be paramount for a Titans team that’s looking to re-insert Derrick Henry back in the lineup. Tennessee’s got bigger fish to try in the coming weeks and I think the Texans want to give the fans a solid performance to end theh year after all they’ve been put through.
