The Bengals and the Browns meet Monday night (Halloween) in NFL action from FirstEnergy Stadium. The Cincinnati Bengals are sitting at 4-3 overall and coming off a big win over the Falcons. As for the Cleveland Browns, they’re 2-5 overall. The Browns lost to the Ravens in their last game. Check back all season long for free NFL picks at Sports Chat Place.
Cincinnati took a couple of losses to the Steelers (OT) and the Cowboys in their first two games this year, but bounced back with wins over the Jets and Dolphins in the next pair. The Bengals would then fall to the Ravens before a win versus the Saints.
In the Falcons game last weekend, Cincinnati got off to a great start with 28 first-half points. The Bengals cooled off after the break but still won 35-17. QB Joe Burrow finished with 481 yards and three scores, and Joe Mixon rushed for 58 yards and a TD.
Over on the Browns’ side, they started out the year at 2-1 with wins over the Panthers and Steelers surrounding a loss to the Jets. Cleveland would then hit a losing streak, falling to the Falcons, Chargers and Patriots in the next three games.
Back on Sunday versus the Ravens, the Browns took a 13-10 deficit into the break. Cleveland kept pace in the second half but still lost 23-20. QB Jacoby Brissett finished with 258 yards on 22-of-27 passing. Nick Chubb led the rush with 91 yards and a TD.
The Bengals are 6-0 ATS in their last six on grass and 8-1 ATS in their last nine road games. Cincinnati is 5-1 ATS in their last six in October.
Meanwhile, the Browns are 16-34-2 ATS in their last 52 after an ATS win and 2-6 ATS in their last eight Monday games. Cleveland is 1-4 ATS in their last five in October.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with the Bengals. Cincinnati put on a clinic in the first half of the Falcons game. Eventually the Bengals would finish with 537 total yards, 29 first downs, 8.1 yards per play, zero turnovers and a solid 7-of-11 rate on third-down tries. The Bengals have been scoring well lately, with 27 or more points in four of their last five games. That trend should continue here.
As for Cleveland, they didn’t do too badly on defense versus the Ravens, but the offense was hurt by a 2-of-11 stretch on third downs and two lost fumbles. Cleveland has been at 20 or fewer points in three of their last four games, going 0-4 in that time. On paper at least, this one looks like another potential defeat.
