The New England Patriots and Detroit Lions clash Sunday in a week 5 NFL game from Gillette Stadium.

The Detroit Lions will try to rebound from their 1-3 start after a 48-45 loss to the Seattle Seahawks last time out. Jared Goff has thrown for 1,126 yards, 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 60.9% passing while Jamaal Williams leads the Lions with 276 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns and D’Andre Swift also has 231 rushing yards this season. T.J. Hockenson has a team-high 261 receiving yards and 3 TDs while Amon-Ra St. Brown has 253 receiving yards with 3 scores and Josh Reynolds has 243 receiving yards and a pair of TDs to lead Detroit’s receiver group this season. On defense, Malcolm Rodriguez leads the Lions with 33 total tackles including 25 solo tackles. Aidan Hutchinson has a team-high 3 sacks as well this season for Detroit.

The New England Patriots will try to bounce back from their own 1-3 start to the year after a 27-24 loss to Green Bay in their last game. Mac Jones has thrown for 786 yards, 2 touchdowns and 5 interceptions on 66% passing, but will miss significant time with an ankle injury. Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson have combined for 457 rushing yards and 4 TDs while Nelson Agholor has a team-high 225 receiving yards and three other Patriot receivers have 100+ receiving yards this season. On defense, Ja’Whaun Bentley has a team-high 25 total tackles while Deatrich Wise Jr. and Matthew Judon each have a team-high 4 sacks as well this season.

Detroit is 4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall. New England is 28-10 ATS in their last 38 games against a team with a losing record and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games in October.

I can make the case either way here, because it’s hard to envision either side here falling to 1-4, mainly because Detroit probably deserves better considering how well the offense has run and 1-4 is not a record commonly associated with New England. That being said, I like the over here. The Patriots showed some life offensively with Bailey Zappe on the field and while this will be a tough defense for the Lions, their offense has shown up big time to start the year but the defense has been atrocious and if New England can put up 24 on Green Bay, it makes you wonder what they could do against Detroit. I think this total should be three or four points higher so give me the over here.
