The New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars clash Sunday afternoon in a week 17 NFL matchup from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. Jacksonville sits at 2-13 so far. Jacksonville went just 1-6 to start the season before notching a surprise 9-6 win over Buffalo on November 7. Since then it’s been an 0-7 run against the Colts, 49ers, Falcons, Rams, Titans, Texans and Jets.
In the Jets game on Sunday, the Jaguars scored in every quarter—but also allowed points in every quarter—in a 26-21 loss. QB Trevor Lawrence put up 280 yards, and Dare Ogunbowale led the rush on 57 yards and a score.
Over on the New England side, they went 2-4 over their first six games before picking things up on a seven-game win streak. Since then it’s been a December 18 loss to the Colts and a Sunday loss to the division rival Bills.
In the Bills game, the Patriots were down 17-10 at halftime and couldn’t keep up in an eventual 33-21 defeat. QB Mac Jones finished on 145 yards and two picks; Damien Harris led the rush on 103 yards and three scores off 18 carries.
The Jaguars are 4-1 ATS in their last five in January and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 on turf. Jacksonville is 1-4 ATS in their last five as a road underdog.
Meanwhile, the Patriots are 5-1 ATS in their last six as a favorite and 7-2 ATS in their last nine in January. New England is 5-2 ATS in their last seven versus the AFC.
PICK: I’m still staying with New England here. The Patriots certainly had trouble versus a tricky Bills team in their last game, coughing up 428 total yards, 5.7 yards per play and 28 first downs. New England couldn’t get much going on offense at all, but should have a much easier time of things in this one.
As for Jacksonville, they couldn’t stop the Jets rush (273 yards) in their last game, but did come up with 252 pass yards and 27 first downs. I like New England to bounce back in this one, and I don’t think the Jags can keep up.
